Toxic Materials Page
This year, in the toxic materials unit, students had to contruct comepletely
non toxic children's toys to be used by the children in the child
development area here at Blair. The students had to research both an
approriate toy build (they ranged from a percussion set to velco
animals to a mini sit and scooter) and they had to research materials
that were completely non toxic. These toys had to be ready for
anything four year olds can dish out. Maybe, some time,
we can get some pictures of the toys and post them, we'll see.
Last year (1997-8) the toxic materials unit dealt with the origins,
environmental effects, and science of toxic materials. Toxic materials
dealt with are the by products of plastics production along with many
products themselves. The students research a selected topic, such as
hydrocarbon emissions, nuclear radioactivity, and rubber tire waste
products. They then present their research about the topic in
a 3-5 page paper. And we have some examples posted:
